Norfolk Regiment/Royal Air Force BWM 2 Lieut C.H. Sharp R.A.F. Victory 2 Lieut C. H. Sharp R.A.F. Death Plaque: Christopher Harold Sharp Enlisted 3rd Battalion Norfolk Regiment, attached 99 Sqn as an Observer. On 26.09.1918 2 formations of 5 DH9's sortied to bomb railways at Thionville with Metz Sablon secondary target, in support of the ground offensive at Verdun. Sharp flew with 2 Lt C R G Abrahams in C6272. Only 7 aircraft reached the lines, due to mechanical problems. After losing another DH9 when attacked by German Scouts, the formation flew to bomb the secondary target. On their return the formation was attacked again with all 7 aircraft being shot down and their crew either killed or taken POW. Sharp's plane is credited to Offizierstellvertreter Bernhard Ultsch, the last of his 12 victories. An original Sanke card of Ultsch is included. A copy of a portrait photo of Sharp (in Norfolk uniform) also included. Some research. Condition: NEF Price: £1275 |
