WW1 Commemorative Death Plaque "John Allen"

John Allen, from Salford Manchester, enlisted the Lancashire Fusiliers at Bury on 26th August 1886, already a member of the 3rd Volunteer Battalion. Allen embarked to South Africa 03.03.1900, probably as part of the reinforcements for the Regiment after their heavy losses at the Battle of Spion Kop.

Presumeabley John Allen rejoined the colours during the Great War, paying the ultimate sacrifice. Further research may reveal an interesting story.

These medals were bought direct from the family at a recent fair at Bolton and have never been on the market before.

Casualty Medals

Norfolk Regiment/Royal Air Force

BWM 2 Lieut C.H. Sharp R.A.F.

Victory 2 Lieut C. H. Sharp R.A.F.

Death Plaque: Christopher Harold Sharp

Enlisted 3rd Battalion Norfolk Regiment, attached 99 Sqn as an Observer.

On 26.09.1918 2 formations of 5 DH9's sortied to bomb railways at Thionville with Metz Sablon secondary target, in support of the ground offensive at Verdun.

Sharp flew with 2 Lt C R G Abrahams in C6272. Only 7 aircraft reached the lines, due to mechanical problems. After losing another DH9 when attacked by German Scouts, the formation flew to bomb the secondary target. On their return the formation was attacked again with all 7 aircraft being shot down and their crew either killed or taken POW.

Sharp's plane is credited to Offizierstellvertreter Bernhard Ultsch, the last of his 12 victories. An original Sanke card of Ultsch is included. A copy of a portrait photo of Sharp (in Norfolk uniform) also included.

Some research.
